Six of us on a photography trip. Being able to cook together saved a fortune and the drying space for wet gear was appreciated after four days of rain. Staff gave us genuinely good advice on where to shoot the aurora locally.

Perfect for a first and last night around flights. The Flybus stop is a few minutes away and they explained exactly which stop to pick when booking. Would recommend for anyone who wants to avoid Reykjavík prices.

Travelling alone, I appreciated the keyless entry and the fact that the building stays locked. The area is quiet and I never felt uneasy walking back at night. Small touches like the shoe rack and the coat hanger sound minor but make a shared building work.

It is a hostel, not a hotel — shared bathrooms, compact rooms, no restaurant. Knowing that, we were very happy. Clean, warm, easy check-in, friendly responses to questions. The walk to the harbour at sunset was lovely.

Suðurbæjarlaug is 10 minutes on foot and cost almost nothing compared to the Blue Lagoon. We went twice. The hostel itself is simple and very clean, and the towels being included saved space in our bags.

Worked from the room for three days and the WiFi held up for video calls throughout. Room is compact, so if you need a desk this may not suit, but for the price and the location I would come back.

A good base for day trips — I did the Golden Circle and the south coast from here. Bathrooms are shared but were always clean when I used them. It is a residential area, so bring snacks if you arrive late; the shops close early.

Booked two quad rooms for eight of us. Everything was straightforward, the codes arrived on the morning of arrival as promised, and we could all cook together in the kitchen. Saw the northern lights from the path by the water on our second night.

Reykjavík prices are brutal and this was a fraction of the cost for a private room. Kitchen is properly equipped so I cooked most nights. Free parking sealed it — I had a hire car and parking in the city would have cost more than the room.

The family room had plenty of space for us and the kids loved the bunk beds. Hellisgerði park is a short walk and kept them busy for an hour. Staff answered WhatsApp within minutes when we asked about the airport bus.

The door-code check-in meant we could arrive at 22:30 after a delayed flight without worrying about anyone waiting up for us. Room was small but immaculate, and the harbour is genuinely two minutes away. The bus to Reykjavík is easy.
