Good to know

Accessibility

An honest account of what is and is not accessible here.

We would rather tell you plainly what this building can and cannot do than let you arrive and find out.

Getting in

There is level access from the free on-site parking to the main entrance. The entrance door is opened with a 4-digit keypad code, which does not require gripping or turning a key.

Inside the building

Corridors on the ground floor are step-free. Doorway widths vary between rooms and were not built to a modern accessible standard, so please contact us before booking and tell us what you need — we will measure the specific room and tell you honestly whether it will work.

Bathrooms

All bathrooms are shared. They are not fitted with grab rails or roll-in showers. If you need an accessible bathroom, we are not currently able to provide one, and we would rather say so now than at check-in.

Assistance animals

Registered assistance animals are welcome. Please tell us in advance so we can allocate a suitable room.

Hearing and vision

Fire alarms are audible only; we do not currently have visual alert devices. If you would find that a barrier, tell us at booking and we will make sure a staff member checks on you personally in the event of an alarm.

This website

We aim for WCAG 2.1 AA. The site works with keyboard navigation and screen readers, respects reduced-motion preferences, and maintains contrast ratios of at least 4.5:1 for body text. If you hit something that does not work for you, email info@hostelfjordur.is and tell us what happened — that feedback is genuinely useful and we will fix what we can.

Nearby

Suðurbæjarlaug thermal pool, 800 m away, has accessible changing facilities and a pool lift.
