Iceland is a different country in summer and winter. Here is roughly what to expect.
Dec – Feb
Long dark nights, 4–5 hours of daylight, best aurora odds. Pack layers and traction for icy pavements.
Mar – May
Fewer crowds, lower prices, and still a decent chance of aurora in March. Weather is changeable.
Jun – Aug
Near-24-hour daylight, all highland roads open, warmest weather. Book well ahead — this is peak season.
Sep – Nov
Aurora returns from late August, moss turns red and gold, and the country empties out again.
