Yes — Hostel Fjördur officially opened on 1 April 2025.

As a newly opened hostel we genuinely welcome guest feedback so we can keep improving. You can share your thoughts through the suggestion box on site, or leave a review here on the website.

The building is 100% smoke free inside. There is a designated smoking area outside on the balcony.

We are not able to accept pets, as several of our guests have allergies. Registered assistance animals are welcome — please let us know in advance so we can prepare the right room.

Guests under 18 are welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Solo travellers must be 18 or older at check-in and may be asked for photo ID.

Hostel Fjördur uses a contemporary door-code system, so check-in and check-out are completely hassle free.

On the day of your booking, before your check-in time, we send you a 4-digit code followed by # by SMS or email. Use it to open the building door and your room door. There is no need to meet anyone or collect a key.

Check-in is from 15:00 to 23:00. Check-out is until 11:00.

If you would like an early or late check-in or check-out, add it as a special request when you book. Special requests cannot be guaranteed — if timing is essential to your travel plans, please check the cancellation options before booking.

Yes. Free public parking is available on site and no reservation is needed.

Yes — use Flybus.

1. Arrival: after landing, follow the signs to the Flybus stop just outside the terminal.
2. Ticket: buy at the Flybus counter near the terminal exit, from the driver, or online in advance at re.is. When booking online, select Fjörukráin as your destination.
3. Boarding: look for the large bus with the Flybus logo. Buses depart regularly from the airport.
4. Journey time: usually 40–50 minutes depending on traffic.
5. Drop-off: the bus stops at the designated Flybus stop in Hafnarfjörður — a few minutes' walk from us.

By Strætó bus, from Suðurgata 18:

1. Find the stop. The nearest stops are 100 m (route 21) and 300 m (route 1) from our door.
2. Take route 1 towards Hlemmur — a direct route from Hafnarfjörður to downtown Reykjavík, about 39 minutes.
3. Get off at Hlemmur, the central terminal, where you can walk or transfer onward.
4. Alternative: take route 21 to Mjódd, then route 11 to Hlemmur — about 46 minutes.

A single fare is roughly ISK 550. Pay with the Strætó app or on board with exact change. Buses run frequently during the day; evening and weekend schedules vary.

Yes — towels and bed linen are included in every room, along with daily housekeeping.

Hostel Fjördur has shared bathrooms only. They are modern, kept clean and well maintained, and cleaned daily to make sure every guest has a comfortable experience.

Yes — free high-speed WiFi is available to all guests throughout the building.

Yes. There is a shared kitchen for guests, with a hob, oven, fridge space, kettle, and pots, pans and utensils. Please label anything you leave in the fridge and wash up after yourself so the space stays pleasant for everyone.

Not on site — but Suðurbæjarlaug, a proper Icelandic thermal pool with hot tubs, is only 800 m away. It is one of the best things you can do in Iceland for the price of a coffee.

Parts of the building are step-free, but not all rooms and bathrooms are fully wheelchair accessible. Please contact us before booking and tell us what you need — we will be honest about what we can and cannot accommodate.

For direct bookings you can pay on arrival by card or cash, or ask us for bank transfer details. Nothing is charged when you book online. For larger groups we may request a deposit.

Direct bookings can be cancelled free of charge up to 48 hours before check-in. After that, or in the case of a no-show, we charge the first night.

Bookings made through other platforms follow that platform's policy.

Yes. Iceland charges a per-room, per-night accommodation tax, which is shown as a separate line in your booking total so there are no surprises at check-in.

Plenty. Hafnarfjörður is known for its harbour, its lava-field parks and a lively arts scene. Within walking distance you have the port, the Hafnarborg centre of culture and fine art, Hellisgerði lava park, the town museum, cafés, restaurants, shops and the thermal pool. A walk or jog along the bay is one of the nicest ways to spend a morning here.

From roughly late August to mid-April, on clear dark nights. You need to get away from street lights — the bayside path and the area around Hvaleyrarvatn lake both work well. Check the aurora forecast at vedur.is before heading out, and dress far warmer than you think you need to. Ask us at reception and we can point you to the best spot for the night, or help you book a tour.
