Hostel Fjördur sits near the port in the charming town of Hafnarfjörður, perfectly placed between Keflavík Airport and Reykjavík — an ideal mid-point for exploring both, and a gateway to Iceland's countryside.

Hafnarfjörður is known for its harbour, its lava-field parks and a lively arts scene. From our door you can walk to the port, the shopping centre, cafés, restaurants, the post office, the bank and the thermal pool. A jog along the bayside is one of the nicest ways to start an Icelandic morning.

The nearest bus stop is a three-minute walk away, which means Reykjavík is under forty minutes from your bed, and the airport bus stops nearby too.

“Great for a group on a budget”

Six of us on a photography trip. Being able to cook together saved a fortune and the drying space for wet gear was appreciated after four days of rain. Staff gave us genuinely good advice on where to shoot the aurora locally.

“Cheap, clean, close to the airport bus”

Perfect for a first and last night around flights. The Flybus stop is a few minutes away and they explained exactly which stop to pick when booking. Would recommend for anyone who wants to avoid Reykjavík prices.

“Felt safe and looked after”

Travelling alone, I appreciated the keyless entry and the fact that the building stays locked. The area is quiet and I never felt uneasy walking back at night. Small touches like the shoe rack and the coat hanger sound minor but make a shared building work.

Is Hostel Fjördur a new hostel?

Yes — Hostel Fjördur officially opened on 1 April 2025.

As a newly opened hostel we genuinely welcome guest feedback so we can keep improving. You can share your thoughts through the suggestion box on site, or leave a review here on the website.

Is the hostel smoke free?

The building is 100% smoke free inside. There is a designated smoking area outside on the balcony.

Do you allow pets?

We are not able to accept pets, as several of our guests have allergies. Registered assistance animals are welcome — please let us know in advance so we can prepare the right room.

Is there an age limit?

Guests under 18 are welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Solo travellers must be 18 or older at check-in and may be asked for photo ID.

How do I check in?

Hostel Fjördur uses a contemporary door-code system, so check-in and check-out are completely hassle free.

On the day of your booking, before your check-in time, we send you a 4-digit code followed by # by SMS or email. Use it to open the building door and your room door. There is no need to meet anyone or collect a key.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 15:00 to 23:00. Check-out is until 11:00.
